Many authors have argued that Staurochilus luchuensis (Rolfe) Garay et Sweet is a same species as Trichoglottis ionosma (Lindley) J. J. Smith, while some authors have discussed that Staurochilus luchuensis (Rolfe) Garay & Sweet has different shaped lip petals from the same of Trichoglottis ionosma (Lindley) J. J. Smith.
Trichoglottis ionosma (Lindley) J. J. Smith occurs only in Philippines.
