Promoting Transnational Labor Studies

We have been promoting the following projects in corporation with scholars and labor activists both in and outside Japan.
  • a study on industrial relations in multi-national corporations
  • a study on a "social charter" and "social clause" for Asia
  • a study on organization of foreign workers in Japan
  • a study on international solidarity among workers in multi-national corporations
  • a study on the influence of the overseas operations of Japanese companies on the Japanese management style

Gathering of Information and Materials

We are gathering the documents such as labor contracts, collective agreements, work rules, employees handbooks from the overseas plants of Japanese multi-national corporations. We hope to become a resource center and to collect information on regular basis. We would appreciate assistance from anyone who can send relevant materials to us. This information will be made available to Japanese and foreign researchers.

Promoting International Seminars and Lectures

Foreign labor researchers and activists, when they visit Japan, are often invited to talk at seminars and lectures organized by our Center. We encourage informal dialogue between Japanese and foreigners. If the foreign labor researchers or activists who are coming to Japan would like to communicate with relevant Japanese researchers and activists, we will try to arrange such meetings particularly if they are prepared to talk about a subject related to the above projects.

Organizing Periodic Seminars

Regular periodic seminars will be organized on a bimonthly basis inviting Japanese or foreign lecturers and advisors. The seminars are mainly for the regular members of our Center.

Publications

For the time being, we publish a series of articles every month in 'Rodo Horitsu Junpo' (Labor Law Semimonthly Bulletin). We also publish our Bulletin twice a year both in Japanese and English.
