This territorial orchid’s white flower looks like a flying snowy egret (Egretta thula), so is called heron glass as its Japanese common name. It is regarded to be one of the most beautiful orchids of Japan, grows in open swamp or marsh.Therefore, wild heron glass has been over hunted and is now facing in extinction. Despite cultivated heron glass may grow in an enthusiast’s private yard or a public botanical garden; it is really difficult to discover a wild heron glass.
