I remember clearly the day when I bought this sketch book. It was the first
year of my student life in Tokyo. The date of the first page is Apr 24,
1975. It was just before three days of my 20th birth day. I don't know
exactly whether the date was the day when I bought this book or not. I
lived in the dormitory, Kokoku Ryo, Musashino City, managed by Shiga Prefecture
for the students from Shiga. I don't remember whether it was Sunday or
a holiday. We went to Inogashira Park with two friends, "K" and
"I" in the same dormitory to go cruising for girl. After a while,
we, three decided we did solely it.
I walk around the pond then I saw a girl sketching, I think it was the other side of Inogashira Station adjoin to the residential area. So I spoked to the girl. As she was sketching, so I began naturally to speak without any effort. We were talking for a while. Then she told me that she failed the entrance examination of Tokyo National University Fine Art and Music, and it was much more difficult than to pass the University of Tokyo. As I didn't know about it much and I didn't want to enter university of fine art for once, I hadn't much impression about it. I said I could pass the exam of Nihon University after once failure and I came to Tokyo to study the aerodynamics and to design the man-powered plane. It was different aim and different situation for us. And she said she would go back home and asked me 'How about you?" I didn't have any idea. So, we said "bye" each other. She was very average girl, not beauty, nor attractive. But, I felt and found there was such a choice to painting. For, I need not restrict any hobby to pass the entrance exam like the last year any more. I don't know whether she could pass or not after the day. But I suppose she couldn't, for it is the high competition rate.
It was the day, I bought this sketch book on the way back to the dormitory,
at the painting material shop in the Inogashira Station, Keio. I bought
a sketch book and the tubed watercolor material for the Japanese-style
painting. As I had used the material once in high school class, so I bought
it, however it was easy use compare with the genuine one, a little bit
expensive than cheap gauche usually used in the high school.
