This is the last sketch book for the days when I was a student. It was
the second year for a student of Nihon University in Apr. 1975. It means
that I had been already out of the selection from my request, aerospace
engineering course. Then, the aerospace course wasn't independent from
the mechanical engineering course. From about all the 300 students of the
mechanical course, 40 or 50 students were selected for their request by
the record of the first year, and were to study in the special class from
the second year. Then, the very famous two doctors was leading the class
to develop the human power plane, was very famous for us who love a plane.
The first year of the university class disappointed me. Nothing new for
a university student, nothing interesting, nothing freedom of choice. And
the more, the campus Narashino where year one students learned was dreary,
countryside without beautiful landscape far from Tokyo. I had to go there
living two hours on the train from MItaka.
There were much more humanities students than science students in the dormitory of the first year. They seemed literally "liberal" student for me. They were drunk and talking and seemed enjoying the campus life in Tokyo. When I entered the university, I had lost interesting about a plane. So, I didn't thought I had to study by any effort to be selected to the aerospace course. After a while, I had often skipped the class. I drank and told with two or three of the liberals like a liberal student of the dormitory. And I was out of the course in the second year. There was no reason to study in the University in Tokyo far from Shiga.
This sketch book is those day's. The book is rather expensive one for watercolor.
I lost the motive, but I had been reading book until 1976. And I didn't
have sketch book after Jan, 1977. For, my main interest had been shifted
to reading. I was reading books as long as possible in the apartment, except
the exercise of guitar, from early morning to night. Fortunately, the campus
Ochanomizu from the second year, was the center of Tokyo, many book shops
were concentrated on Kanda was rarely for the cities in the world, was
near, very near to the campus, campus?, it was barely eight or nine buildings
of the university without ground and field, except the site. I went to
see the book shops everyday. And I went to the university to go to see
around the book shops. I didn't be bored as long as seeing around the back
of books in the shelf.
I was reading, instead of painting after Jan, 1977, so this had been the
last sketch book for my university life. I think it might be 1977 when
I bought rather big canvas 50F and oil painting material and I began '2001'
oil painting in my house Shiga during the vocation of the university.
