SITE CONDITIONS

Makino town in Shiga Prefecture is located in the northwest side of the Lake Biwa. It is near the Makino Plateau and is the most suitable place to heal a fatigue by contemporary urban life during all seasons.

ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT

In this project it was most significant to take nature into the inside of building and to incorporate the building into nature. The building was designed an integration with the surrounding nature, by the largest possible windows to adopt natural light and scenery sufficiently, and by using wood for interior finish as much possible. The aisles along both sides of building were situated to allow for easy approach to the inside during heavy snow storms; These spaces were planned as useful semi-outdoor space for multi-purpose.

STRUCTURAL CONCEPT

Under the requirement of roof structure which is assumed a snow load of 500kgf/m2, the roof is treated as a structural slab supported by the concrete ribs on both sides and the beam supported by a lower bowstring truss, which realized a large space of 14 tatamimats composed by only two pillars.
