ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT

The axis of the building was established to have the best views from this site. On the same axis the views have three levels from the bathroom, the terrace and the living room .

The shape of the roof was composed by a "swell" reflecting the topography and a "curve" continuing to the distant mountains, thereby a light feeling was expressed physically and visually. This composition of the roof is a result of the shape which reduces an influence from the strong southwestern wind of typhoon and resounds with nature as much as possible.

SPACE CONSTITUTION

The spaces of this project are constituted with a living room named "Tsudoinoma" in the center of the building, bedrooms, a guest room and kitchens on both sides of the building, and an entrance hall and a main dining room for visitors on the same axis as that of the "Tsudoinoma". The "Tsudoinoma" has an area of 20 tatamimats and faces on the Kurose Dam. It is a beamless space which has a maximum ceiling height of 6m and enclosed by glass to take in the beautiful scenery. This space as a wooden structure was constructed with metal joint reinforcements and metal braces instead of traditional wood joints. This structural method enabled the curtain wall glass of the "Tsudoinoma" to have a just 10mm wind displacement tolerance and to make this space and shape possible.
