第１章 文型
文型をどこまで捉えられるか。
文型を覚えてますか？第一文型、第二文型〜第五文型まで。
英文を理解するには不可欠な知識です。
構造が分からなければ英文は読めません。英文の構造の基礎が文型です。
文型の基本は、初級ドリル０１のLesson３〜５にあります。
感覚をつかむための練習問題はホムペ ☆21 基本のページ英文法に
３００問ありますのでみっちりやって下さい。

使い方。
問題だけを見て、訳を自分でノートに書いてみましょう。
辞書を使ってもかまいません。
何度も読んで考え、自分なりの訳をつくってから、
下の答えを見るようにしましょう。
中上級英文03
Upon the sacredness of property civilization itself depends−the
right of the laborer to his hundred dollars in the savings bank, and
equally the legal right of the millionaire to his millions.
中上級英文04
So long as all the increased wealth which modern progress brings
goes but to build up great fortunes, to increase luxury and make sharper
the contrast between the House of Have and the House of Want, progress is
not real and cannot be permanent.

Upon the sacredness （神聖であること＝不可侵権、に）
of property （財産の）
civilization itself （文明そのもの）
depends （頼っている）
the right （権利）
of the laborer （労働者の）
to his hundred dollars （１００ドルに対する）

Tips
☆1 Upon the sacredness は、後ろの depends からつながる。
☆2 the sacredness ＝ the right ＝ the legal right 。
全訳例
財産の不可侵権には文明そのものが依存している。労働者が銀行口座に預けて
いる１００ドルの所有権、そして、同様に、百万長者が銀行に預けている１００
万ドルの所有権である。
中上級英文04
So long as （である限り）
all the increased wealth （増加した富全て）
which modern progress brings （現代の進歩によってもたらされる）

to build up （作り上げる）

Tips
☆1 So long as で始まる節は Want, まで。
☆2 goes but の but は only であることを知っていて、思い出せたか。
☆3 make(Ｖ) sharper(Ｃ) the contrast(Ｏ) は五文型の倒置。
☆4 the House of Have と the House of Want を訳せること。
全訳例
現代の進歩によってもたらされる豊かな富の全てが、「大きな富が蓄積し、贅
沢が加速し、持つ者と持たざる者の差が大きくなる」方向にしか進まないのであ
れば、進歩は本物ではないし、永続することもないであろう。
