The Island of Kinkasan, literally MOUNTAIN OF GOLDEN FLOWERS,is twenty-four kilometers in circumference and its highest peak is 445 meters above sea level.

In the central part of the island is erect the god and goddess of Kanayama-hiko and Kanayama-hime.

The shrine was built in AD749 in the reign of the Emperor Shomu,in commemoration of the mining of gold in this neighborhood.

Here you can see a Shinto shrine built in a typical wave-style(nagare-zukuri).

Since olden times countless worshippers have been visiting this shrine to ask for wealth, fortune,or large catches of fish and safety at sea.
