Logistically you would have to jump to the side of the treadmill while keeping the machine going and then jump straight back on again. Add a bit of fatigue after a couple of repetitions and trouble will loom. Aside from safety, the short recovery will expose the average treadmill runner's musculoskeletal system to higher risk of injury as good technique declines.
