2001-01-01 My view of 20th Century

On Dec.30-31, the eleven TV series film "Pictures of Century", jointly made by NHK-US.ABC was on re-display to commemorate the end of 20h Century. One series is about 80 minutes

This series was based on historical view that U.S. is always on the side of righteousness, but general point of view the series have a objectivity for the history.
This TV films confirmed me of my view of 20th Century, represented by three words.
Key words for the 20th Century are (1) Century of War, First and Second World War, (2) Century of Revolutions, resulted in failures, (3)Century of science and technology.

Comparing the death tool of 10 million people in WW-1, and 50 million people in WW-2, wars in Korean, Vietnam, Middle East, Afghan, Angola, Congo, Rwanda, Bosnia, Kosvo, and Chechan etc., was relatively minor (Korean war; 1.5 million Vietnam; 1.2 million people dead), showing that nuclear weapon's deterrence prevent the occurrence of WW-3.
As for the Revolutions in Russia, China, Asia-Africa, they would be inevitable in the course of history. But, from the present time(end of century), the results of revolutions give the doubts of their meanings. Around in year 1980, my French friend said he opposed any revolution in the world, giving me the impression that he was a reactionary. But now, it seems that his thought had a truth learning form human history.
Most remarkable progress made in 20th Century will be science and technology area, and they made strong achievements in life-science and Information Technology (IT), specially very near the end of century. Now many people spend affluent materialistic life and subsequently, many environmental problems occurs in negative side.

I guess the 21st Century will have less dramatic events than 20th Century.
But progress of science and technology will be more rapid, and IT (it would be better call Internet Technology) will make a new culture in the world I hope.
