BAUER AND M’LAUGHLIN.

ボーエル対マクラフリン

　The second wrestling match between Colonel J. H. M’laughlin of Detroit and Thiebaud Bauer of New York came off in Detroit on April 10th, at Whitney’s Opera House, before over 1000 spectators. The stakes $500 a side and door money. Harry Hill of New York was referee, and the conditions of the match were: One fall collar and elbow style, second fall Greco-Roman style, and the character of the third fall to be determined by a toss, the previous styles being excluded. M’laughlin won the first fall in twelve minutes, throwing Bauer at the close with apparent ease. The second fall was won by Bauer in seven minutes, after a spirited struggle between the two men on their knees. For the third fall the toss was won by Bauer, who chose the catch-as-catch-can-style. In five minutes Mclaughlin had him on his back, after a spirited struggle, and thus won the match.――Cincinnati Commercial.

　デトロイトのJ･H･マクラフリン大佐とニューヨークのティエボー･ボーエルとのレスリング試合第二戦がデトロイトで4月10日、ホイットニー･オペラ･ハウスに、千人を超える観衆を集めて行なわれた。賞金は両者五百ドルずつの賭け金と興行収入から支払われた。ニューヨークのハリー･ヒルが審判で、試合の条件は次の通り。一本目がカラー･アンド･エルボー･スタイル、二本目がグレコ･ローマン･スタイル、三本目の方式は硬貨を投げて決定するが、実施済みのスタイルは除外される。マクラフリンが一本目を取ったのは12分、最後は明らかに易々とボーエルを倒した。二本目は両者膝を着いての激闘の末、ボーエルが7分で取った。三本目のための硬貨投げはボーエルが勝ち、キャッチ･アズ･キャッチ･キャン･スタイルを選択した。激闘の末、5分でマクラフリンが彼を仰向けにし、かくして試合に勝利したのであった。――シンシナティ商業新聞より。

　GRECO-ROMAN WRESTLING.――The residents of Chicago were treated to a display of Greco-Roman wrestling on the evening of Saturday, April 21st. The contestants were Marchando, who has gained some notoriety at this kind of sport, and an antagonist who had the sobriquet of the “Masked Man” conferred on him, owing to the upper portion of his face being enveloped in a fine wire domino. The first fall was won by Marchando, who threw his opponent over his shoulder, landing him fairly on his back. The Unknown succeeded in getting the next fall, putting his antagonist on the floor by a back-hold. In the third and last bout the Frenchman proved his superiority by quickly placing his adversary hors de combat. The whole match was of very short duration, not lasting over half an hour.

　グレコ･ローマン･レスリング――シカゴ市民のためにグレコ･ローマン･レスリングが公開されたのは4月21日、土曜日の晩のことであった。競技者のマルシャンドは、この種のスポーツで悪名高い人物であり、対戦相手は「覆面男」の通名を授かった人物で、その所以はその顔の上部を細い針金製の仮面で覆っていることから来る。一本目を取ったのはマルシャンドで、相手を肩越しに投げ、完全に仰向けに着地させた。名無しは二本目を取ることに成功、相手を後ろから抱えて床に這わせた。最終の三本目、フランス人は素早く敵を「戦闘不能」に陥らせて己の優越を証明した。試合はごく短時間で終わり、半時間とかからなかった。

　ジェームス・ハイラム・マクラフリンはカラー･アンド･エルボー･スタイルの王者で、グレコ･ローマン王者のウィリアム･マルドゥーン以前のアメリカ･プロレス界最初のスターでした。
