The four outstanding contests in the third round of the light-weights competition occupied over two hours, and so it was found impossible to proceed with the middle-weights as had been originally intended. To give the spectators a good wind-up to the afternoon’s sport, however, Maida Yamato, the Japanese, and Abdullah, the copper-coloured negro from the Argentine, were put on to settle their differences in the heavy-weights, and a good stirring bout they gave. 進行が遅くなったのはロンドンのアルハンブラ劇場に於ける大レスリング大会であった。軽量級戦の三回戦に於ける四つの傑出した競技は二時間以上を費やし、それ故に中量級戦を本来意図されていたように進める事は不可能とわかった。しかしながら、午後の運動競技のよき結末を観客達に提供するため、前田大和、日本人と、アブドーラ、アルゼンチン出身の赤銅色の黒人が、彼等の意見の相違を解決すべく重量級戦を組まれ、よく興奮させる勝負を彼等が示した。 Although the heavier by over 2 st., and considerably the taller, Abdullah was soon flung on his shoulder to the mat by his clever opponent, but his prodigious strength enabled him to keep the Japanese from turning him on to his back. Yamato did not hurry himself, but bringing all his knowledge and skill to work, he gradually worked him over, in spite of Abdullah’s frantic efforts to break the hold. The result was received with vociferous applause by the spectators, who were glad to see Yamato obtain some recompense for his defeat by Irelinger in the middle-weights on the previous day. 比べるに2ストーン（※約13kg）以上重く、かなり背が高かったけれど、アブドーラはその抜け目のない敵によってすぐにその片方の肩を下にマットに投げ付けられたものの、その怪力がよく彼をして日本人が彼を仰向けに引っくり返す事から避けしめた。大和は急がざるも、その知識と技能を総動員して当たり、技を破らんとするアブドーラの死に物狂いの努力にも関わらず、徐々に彼を引っくり返した。その結果は観客達によって喧しい喝采を以って迎えられたが、彼等は大和が前日の中量級戦に於けるアースリンガー戦の敗北に対して多少の償いを得たと見て喜んだのであった。 Yamato’s fellow-countryman, Hirano, a plucky little fellow, weighting only 7 st. 4 lb., met with defeat at the hands of P. C. Olsen, a light-haired, happy-faced Scandinavian from Newcastle. Olsen was over 2 st. the heavier and considerably the stronger man, but the little Japanese’s surprising agility kept him at bay for nearly 25 minute. Hirano gave his opponent no rest, running about all over the mat, and in the most dexterous fashion slipping all the holds Olsen put upon him. Both wrestlers were heartily cheered at the finish, and the cheering was redoubled when the M.C. announced that the victor had requested him to annouce that the Japanese weighed only 7 st. 2 lb. to his 9 st. 6 lb. ようやく、オルセンがその小さな蝶を万力のような握りに捕らえ、そしてあらゆる彼のよじりと返しをものともせずに、彼を逃れられないやり方で投げ、時に彼の両肩は冷酷にマットの上に押し下げられた。双方のレスラーは心からの声援を最後に受け、勝者が司会者に披露するよう求めた事その日本人の体重たった7ストーン2ポンド（※約45kg）に対し彼が9ストーン6ポンド（※約60kg）ある事を司会者が告げた時に歓声は倍加された。 From a wrestling point of view the finest bout of the day was that in which Jack Carroll defeated J. Broadbent on points after a full half-hour of as strenuous work as has been seen on any of the five days. Carroll did nearly all the attacking for the first 10 minutes, but then Broadbent got an arm-lock, and Carroll looked very much like being pinned down. He managed to bridge successfully, however, and, gradually wearing his opponent down, did all the work again in the last 10 minutes.
