SYRACUSE, N. Y., March 20.―Con O’Kelly, Tommy Ryan’s “white man’s hope,” to-day started for New York, to sail for his home in Ireland for a three months’ visit. Con is in poor health, and his weight has dropped to 200 pounds. He will re-enter the ring about August.

　シラキュース、ニューヨーク州、3月20日。―コン･オケリー、トミー･ライアンの「白人の希望」が、三ヶ月間の滞在の為アイルランドの郷里へ向けて航海すべく、今日ニューヨークへと出発した。コンは健康が優れず、その体重は200ポンドまで落ちていた。彼は八月頃リングに再び上がろう。

　残念ながら、オケリーのボクシング成績は期待ほど振るわず、世界王座には届かぬまま、離米しました。その後米国のリングに戻った形跡はなく、英国でも活動再開までには、病気のせいか、間が空いています。

　Con O’Kelly, of England, and J. Lennun, of Switerland, met to decide a catch-as-catch-can wrestling match at Hull on Monday. Early in the bout, however, the men fell off the raised platform, and Kelly had to retire with a wrenched back muscle.

CLERGY AND A BOXING MATCH.
牧師達とボクシング試合。

　A special meeting of the Property Committee of Hull Corporation was called with reference to the letting of the City Hall for the boxing contest between O’Kelly and Gunner Moir.

　ハル市財産委員会の臨時会議が招集されたのはオケリーと砲手モワールとの間のボクシング競技の為に市会堂を貸し出す事に関してであった。

　Mr Holloway, promoter of the contest, said that twelve clergymen had booked seats, and he invited the Rev. W. Heap, a Wesleyan minister, and the Rev. A. Greenwood, a Baptist minister, who had signed a letter of protest against the use of the City Hall, to go and judge for themselves.

　ホロウェイ氏、競技の興行主、曰く十二人の牧師が席を予約しており、そして市会堂の使用に反対する文書に署名している、W･ヒープ師、メソジスト派の僧と、グリーンウッド師、バプテスト派の僧は、来て彼等自身で判断してもらうべく、彼は招待したと。


　試合が実際に行われたかは記録が見つからずわかりません。

　Con O’Kelly, of Hull, beat Curran in the eighth round of a glove fight at Plymouth to-night.

　ハルの、コン･オケリーが、カランを破ったのはグローブ拳闘の第八回に於いてプリマスにて今夜であった。

　上記ウェブ･サイトによれば、オケリーは1920年代初期に米国に移住したものの、間もなくアイルランドに帰って農場を営み、のちイングランドに移って1947年ハルにて亡くなった由。同名の息子はイギリス代表のヘビー級ボクサーとして1924年オリンピックに出場。プロにもなりましたが、のちに司祭になったそうです。
