Nat G. Pendleton of the New York A. C., former intercollegiate wrestling champion, proved himself the best of a quartet of contenders for the metropolitan heavyweight wrestling title last night and won the championship by throwing his opponents in both the semi-final and final bouts. The matches, which were held at the New York A. C., desided the metropolitan honors in four classes―125-ponds, 145-ponds, 158-pounds and the heavyweight.

　Pendleton, who was Captain of the wrestling team at Columbia not so many years ago, had a comparatively easy time with both his rivals for the heavyweight title. In the semi-final tussle he pinned V. Kivi of the Finnish-American A. C. to the mat with a bar hold after three minutes of grappling. In the final encounter he faced Karl Leppanan, also of the Finnish-American A. C., and only slightly more than time of the another match minutes were necessary before Leppanan succumbed to a double arm lock.

Wins Place on Olympic Team by Throwing Ray in Unlimited Heavyweight Class.

　Nat Pendleton, the national A. A. U. heavyweight champion and a former intercollegiate titleholder when he captained the Columbia University team four years ago, last night won a trip to Europe. In the final of the heavyweight division of the Olympic tryouts at the 22d Regiment Armory, Pendleton threw Private F. W. Ray of the army, stationed at Camp Lewis, Wash., in 1:32.

　ナット･ペンドルトン、全国運動愛好家連合重量級王者にして四年前コロンビア大学チーム主将時の元大学選手権者は、昨夜欧州行きの切符を勝ち取った。第22連隊練兵棟でのオリンピック選考会重量級の部の決勝に於いて、ペンドルトンは陸軍のF･W･レイ兵卒、ワシントン州、ルイス基地配属を、1分32秒で、倒した。

　Pendleton had the easiest victory of any of the sixty contestants, and in the trial round on Monday night he tossed Captain A. M. Weyand, former West Point football star, to the mat in less than four minutes. Both rivals had tremendous advantages over the New Yorker, Weyand in both height and weight and Ray in poundage.

　ANTWERP, Aug. 27.―The American athletes formally protested to-day the decision by which Roth, Sweden, was declared winner over Nat Pendleton of New York in the bout for the heavyweight catch-as-catch-can Olympic championship.
　There were no falls, but the Americans contended Pendleton was an easy winner on points, he having the Swede on the defensive most of the time.

　Antwerp, Aug. 18.―In the Greco-Roman elimination wrestling matches Nat Pendleton of the New York A. C., who was entered in the light heavyweight class, was disqualified after twenty-two minutes for using the barred arm hold, and Eriksen, his Danish opponent, was awarded the match. F.W. Maichle, of the United States Navy, another light heavyweight, outpointed Leonardson, of Sweden.
