It is as old―or older―than boxing itself, and was one of the recognised sports of the first Olympic Sports which the Greeks held in 776 B.C. Meeske and Mr. Warrington, given so that those present might form some idea of which was the better method of self-defence. The boxer, who was only allowed to hit, and not to hold, got all the worst of the bout.
