Terrible Turk Meets Gallagher Next Wednesday.
恐怖のトルコ人がギャラガーと立ち合うは次の水曜日。

　Yousouf and his handlers got into Buffalo from Chicago yesterday and left again for Toronto, where the Turk wrestles tomorrow night. He will return to Buffalo Sunday and will remain here until after his match with Gallagher.

　ユーソフと彼の介添人達は昨日シカゴよりバッファローに入りそして再びトロントに向けて出立、その地でトルコ人は明晩レスリングする。彼は日曜日バッファローに戻って彼のギャラガーとの試合の後までこの地に残るであろう。

　The great wrestling match between Yousouf and Dennis Gallagher of Buffalo for a purse of $500, and the entire gate receipts, will take place on Wednesday evening next at the Music Hall. Yousouf, it is said, has 115 victories to his credit, and has never suffered defeat. Naturally he makes light of his present adversary, while many of Gallagher’s admirers in this city figure that the Turk will have all he can attend to in defeating him. Ever since the match has been spoken of Gallagher has been in active training and will surely enter the ring in first class condition, and will make the effort of his life to lower the colors of Yousouf.

　レスリング大試合がユーソフとバッファローのデニス･ギャラガーとの間で500ドルの懸賞金と、入場料収入の全額とを賭けて、次の水曜日の晩に音楽堂にて行なわれよう。ユーソフは、115の勝利をその誉とし、そして未だかつて敗北を被った事がないと、言われている。当然に彼は彼の眼前の敵を軽視しており、一方我が町に於ける多くのギャラガーの崇拝者達はトルコ人が彼を打ち負かすに於いては聞き得るあらゆる助言を受けるであろうと考えている。試合が噂されて以来ずっとギャラガーは猛練習を続けており必ずや最高の体調でリングに入るであろうし、ユーソフが旗を下ろして降参する様に一世一代の努力をするであろう。

　The Turk has been devoting more of his time of late to training and keeping in condition than is his usual wont, and seems to be taking more interest in this bout than any that he has previously engaged in in this country. Ordinarily his methods of training has been smoking innumerable packages of cigarettes and eating and drinking enough for a regiment of soldiers. For the past few days he has been restricting himself as to his diet and refrains from smoking over one package of cigarettes after each meal. These, by the way, follow each other with astonishing regularity at intervals of not more than three hours.

　トルコ人は近頃彼の常の日課より多くの時間を練習と体調の維持に充てており、彼が我が国に於いて以前に闘った如何なるものよりこの勝負に身を入れている様に見える。通常彼の練習のやり方は数え切れない箱数の煙草を喫し一連隊の兵士達に十分な程を飲み食いするものであった。この数日の間彼は食事に関して自らに制限を課しておりかつ毎食後の煙草一箱を超える喫煙を差し控えている。これ等は、ところで、驚くべき規則正しさを以って三時間を超えない間隔を置いて交互に繰り返されるのである。

　Toronto, Can., June 27.―Yousouf, the Turk, defeated R. N. Harrison, formerly champion wrestler of Canada, here Saturday night in two straight falls. Time, 5:16 and 16.

　トロント、カナダ、6月27日。…ユーソフ、トルコ人が、R･N･ハリソン、レスリング前カナダ王者を、この地にて土曜の晩に二本連取して打ち負かした。勝負時間は、5分16秒と16分。

　試合は25日。ハリソンは大男だった由。

　Rochester, June 27.―Umpire Doscher called the game at the end of the twelfth inning today because of the late hour, with the score a tie at five runs. It was an intensely exciting finish and one in which both sides kicked at the close decisions. Doscher was generally right.
　Yousouf and Adam Miller gave a wrestling exhibition before the game. Score.

　Yousouf, the Terrible Turk, went to Rochester yesterday, and threw a man named Miller. This he did by the way of exercise for his match with Denny Gallagher tomorrow night in Music Hall. Gallagher will work hard today and to-night he will go to bed for a long rest. In this way he expects to be in the shape for the bout with the Turk.

　ユーソフ、恐怖のトルコ人は、昨日ロチェスターに赴いて、ミラーという名の男を倒した。これを彼はデニー･ギャラガーとの明晩の音楽堂に於ける彼の試合の為の実習の手段として行なった。ギャラガーは今日激しい練習をして今宵は床に着いて長く休むであろう。この方法に於いて彼は良い状態になってトルコ人との勝負に臨むつもりである。

　It is a long time since a wrestling event excited as much interest as the match between Yousouf and Gallagher at Music Hall tonight. Gallagher has a big following in Buffalo and all are anxious to see him hold his own with the wonderful wrestler from the land of the Sultan. The Turk has excited the curiosity of all the people in the country. Buffalo lovers of wrestling had a small sample of what Yousouf could do during his recent engagement at the Garden Theater and many will go tonight to see if he has skill as well as great strength.

　ユーソフとギャラガーとの間の音楽堂での今宵の試合程に興味深い興奮させるレスリング興行は久方振りである。ギャラガーにはバッファローに大勢の信奉者がいて全員がその回教王国から来た驚くべきレスラーに屈しない彼を見る事を切望している。トルコ人は我が国に於ける全人民の好奇心を刺激して来た。バッファローの好角家達がささやかな見本を得たのはユーソフが公園劇場での彼の最近の勤めの間になし得たものからであり大勢が今宵彼が大力はもちろん技能も持っているかを見に行くであろう。

　When Gallagher heard that it took the Turk eighteen minutes to throw Harrison in Toronto, Saturday night he smiled and remarked:

　土曜の晩、トロントに於いてトルコ人がハリソンを倒すのに十八分かかったとギャラガーが聞いた時、彼は微笑んで言った。

　“Why I threw Harrison three times in eight minutes six years ago when he was a better man than he is today.”

　「俺はハリソンを彼が今日あるよりも強い男だった六年前に八分の内に三度倒しているからね。」

　It is on the time it has taken the Turk to throw some of his opponents that Gallagher banks his confidence, for many of the men were thrown by him in less time than it took the Turk to turn the trick.
　トルコ人が彼の敵の幾人かを倒すのにかかった時間に基づいてギャラガーがその自信を積み重ねるのは、多くの男達はトルコ人が目的を達するのにかかったよりも短い時間で彼によって倒されたが故である。

Gallagher Is Well Known.

　Gallagher is one of the most widely known wrestlers in this country and at one time he was an aspirant for international honors. He visited England and France and met the good men of those countries. He threw most of their good men and became a king bee among the sporting fraternity across the water. He was backed by Pony Moore and other well known followers of the sport and for a long time appeared in exhibitions with Charlie Mitchell and met all comers at Moore’s York Road House.

　ギャラガーは我が国に於いて最も広く知られたレスラーの内の一人でありかつては国際的な名望を求める野心家であった。彼は英国と仏国を訪れてそれ等の国々の強者達と立ち合った。彼はそれ等の強者達のほとんどを倒して海を越えた競技仲間の内の王蜂となった。彼はポニー･ムーアや他の有名なその運動競技の信奉者達に後援されて長い間ムーアのヨーク街道館にてチャーリー･ミッチェルと共に模範試合に出場しかつあらゆる応戦者と立ち合った。

　In Buffalo Gallagher wrestled with Hugh Leonard, Jimmy Faulkner, Evan Lewis, Gibbs, the Kansas Demon, Matsada Sorakichi and many other men who were prominent on the mat a few years ago.

　バッファローに於いてギャラガーがレスリングした相手はヒュー･レオナルド、ジミー･フォークナー、イワン･ルイス、ギブス、カンサスの悪魔、松田そらきち並びに数年前マット上に於いて傑出した他の多くの男達であった。

The Buffalo Man’s Tricks Were of No Use in Last Night’s Bout with Yousouf.
バッファロー人の技は昨夜のユーソフとの勝負に於いて役に立たず。

　Denny Gallagher succumbed to the Terrible Turkey, as Comedian McHale calls Yousouf, after seventeen minutes of wrestling in Music Hall last night.

　デニー･ギャラガーが恐怖のトルコ人に屈したのは、喜劇役者マクヘイルがユーソフの名を呼んだ時、昨夜の音楽堂に於ける十七分のレスリングの後であった。

　Like all of the other champions and alleged champions with whom the Sultan’s big fellow has locked arms since his advent in America, Tom Jenkins and Wittmer excepted, the Buffalo man proved comparatively easy game for Yousouf. Dennis displayed plenty of skill and he executed some very pretty defensive movements, but it all amounted to nought against such terrible odds. The monster Turk took things easy for a time, feeling his man out, and then went at him like a huge bear and mauled the little fellow around the mat with ridiculous ease.

　トム･ジェンキンズとウィットマーを除く、その回教国王の大男が米国降臨以来組み合って来たあらゆる他の王者達並びに自称王者達の如くに、そのバッファロー人はユーソフにとってかなり楽に手に入る獲物であると判明した。デニスは十分な技能を示しそしてとても見事な防御の動きを幾らか実行したものの、斯様なひどい不均衡に対してそれは全く零に等しかった。怪物の如きトルコ人はしばしの間気楽に構えて、その相手に探りを入れつつ、そしてそれから巨大な熊の様に彼に襲い掛かって馬鹿馬鹿しい程の容易さを以ってマットのあちこちでその小さい男を打ちのめした。

　In the first bout, Gallagher, after endeavoring vainly to trip the Turk, was thrown on the mat, and after squirming for a few minutes, he was crotched and turned to one shoulder, the big fellow then finishing the job by throwing his other arm around Gallagher’s body and forcing both shoulders to the mat by main strength. Time 5 1-2 minutes.

　一本目の勝負に於いて、ギャラガーは無駄にトルコ人をつまずかせるべく努めた後に、マット上に投げられ、そして数分間のたくった後に、彼は股を掬われて片方の肩を返され、大男がそれから仕事を完了したのは彼の別の腕をギャラガーの胴回りに放って全力を以って両肩をマットに押し付ける事によってであった。勝負時間5と1/2分。

　Gallagher gained much applause by his excellent defensive work in the next bout and managed to stay twelve minutes. A combination catch（※crotchの誤植か） hold and half Nelson did the trick this time, Gallagher being badly punished before going down.

　ギャラガーが多くの拍手喝采を得たのは次の勝負に於ける彼の優れた防御によってであって何とか十二分持ちこたえた。掴み技（※股掬いか）とハーフ･ネルソンの複合技が今回は功を奏し、ギャラガーは倒される前にひどく痛めつけられた。

　About 800 people witnessed the contest.

　およそ800人が競技を観戦した。
