レーベル面の記号

IECではレーベル上に少なくとも以下の情報を記述するよう推奨していました。

  1. カタログ番号

  2. 面番号、一枚以上のセット物の場合は通数：たとえばside 5 of 8

  3. 曲目

  4. 回転数

  5. 溝の種類は以下のように言葉および記号を併記

カートリッジ針の記号

1995年廃止（その頃にはレコード関連のJIS規格は全廃）のPhonograph Pick-Ups JIS C5503(1979)によると：

IEC案にもとずいていますが、4チャンネル用はJIS独自のものでした。IECやJISの規定は推奨する案にすぎませんので実際の製品では無視されました。圧電形に使われたサファイヤが現状では少なくなったので針の材質のカラーコードも現在では陳腐化してしまいました。ただし古いカートリッジで端子が4端子以外のものには以下が参考になるかもしれません（これも実際の製品では守られずメーカーやその製品独自の接続方法もありました）。

Colour coding (E5) as per IEC 98-1964: If colour coding is used for the following purposes, it shall be as follows:  

5.5.1 For stylus supports, cartridges and pick-up heads.
The radius of reproducing stylus Intended use  Colour code Geometrical code
0.002-0.003 in. (0.051-0.076  mm) Coarse groove Green Square
0.0007-0.0010 in. (0.018-0.025 mm) Fine groove monophonic only Red Triangle

Note 1. The geometrical codes are not mandatory.
Note 2. The use of the same colour and geometrical codes to indicate the position of control knobs
           on record players and automatic record changers is recommended.
Note 3. The colour codes from Clauses 5.5.1 and 5.5.2 may be used simultaneously.
5.5.2 For identification of stylus material.
Diamond: gold or yellow
Sapphire: silver
5.5.3 For pick-up leads.
5.5.3.1 Three-wire pick-ups. 
Right-hand channel: red
Left-hand channel: white
Return or ground: black
5.5.3.1 Four-wire pick-ups. 
Right-hand channel: red and green*
Left-hand channel: white and blue*
5.5.3.1 Five-wire pick-ups.
