Nat Pendleton, former Olympic champion Wrestler, added Ivan Pedoubney, “Russian Lion,” to his list of victims last night. The men clashed in a finish bout on the training ship Granite State, at the foot of West Ninety-seventh Street. After fifty-seven minutes of tugging and mauling, Pendleton, the aggressor from the start, suddenly applied a toe hold, which forced Pedoubney to submit. Dr B. F. Roller refereed the match, which was witnessed by a large crowd.

　ナット･ペンドルトン、前オリンピック王者レスラーが、イワン･ペドウブニー、「露西亜獅子」を、彼の被害者名簿に加えたのは昨夜であった。両者が完全決着戦で激突したのは実習船花崗岩州（※ニュー･ハンプシャー州）号の上、西九十七番通りの根元にてであった。五十七分間の奮闘乱戦の末、開始から攻勢であった、ペンドルトンが、突如爪先固めを用いて、ペドウブニーをして降参せしめた。B･F･ローラー博士が試合を裁き、大群衆が観戦した。

Pendleton Tosses Padoubny
ペンドルトンがパドウブニーを投げる

　Nat Pendleton, the Olympic wrestling champion, threw Ivan Padoubny, the Russian lion, in 57 minutes, with a toe hold, in a special exhibition match on board the United States training ship Granite State last night. Dr. Roller was referee. Pendleton, weighing 190 pounds, gave away forty-five pounds to his opponent.

　ナット･ペンドルトン、オリンピックのレスリング王者が、イワン･パドウブニー、露西亜獅子を、57分に、爪先固めを以って倒したのは、昨夜合衆国実習船花崗岩州号の甲板上の特別公開試合に於いてであった。ローラー博士が行司をした。ペンドルトンは、体重190ポンドで、四十五ポンドその相手に譲っていた。

Pendleton, Olympic Champion, Breaks Shoulder in Mat Bout
ペンドルトン、オリンピック王者が、マット勝負で肩を壊す

　LONG BRANCH, N. J., July 13.―Nat Pendleton, who won the heavyweight wrestling championship at the Olympic games in Antwerp last year, is suffering from a fracture of the right arm sustained in a match with Carl Vogel in the Casino here. Vogel lifted Pendleton into the air and threw him to the mat heavily. Vogel weighed 245 ponds and Pendleton 203.

　ロング･ブランチ、ニュー･ジャージー州、7月13日。…ナット･ペンドルトン、昨年アントワープに於けるオリンピック競技会にて重量級レスリング選手権を勝ち取った男は、此の地の賭博場でのカール･ヴォーゲルとの試合に於いて被った右腕の骨折に苦しんでいる。ヴォーゲルはペンドルトンを宙に持ち上げて彼をマットに激しく投げ付けた。ヴォーゲルは体重245ポンドにしてペンドルトンは203であった。

Thinks Punishment Is Prominent Part In Mat Game
思うに痛め付けはマット勝負の重要な部分である

　Nat Pendleton, the former amateur wrestler, believes that punishment is as much a part of wrestling as it is a part of boxing, and questions the advisability of the embargo that the New York State Athletic Commission has placed on the mat game.

　ナット･ペンドルトン、元アマチュア･レスラーの、信ずる所では痛め付けはそれがボクシングの一部であるのと同じ程にレスリングの一部であり、ニューヨーク州体育委員会がそのマット勝負に定めた所の禁止令の適否には疑問があると。

　In barring head locks, toe and scissors holds Pendleton says the commission has given the referee and impossible task―that of determining where punishment begins and wrestling stops.

　頭蓋骨締め、爪先固め並びに両脚での締め技を禁ずるに於いてはペンドルトン曰く委員会は行司に不可能な仕事…どこで痛め付けが始まりレスリングが止むかを決定する事…を与えていると。

　Pendleton is among those who believe that the popularity of wrestling will suffer because of the new restrictions.

　ペンドルトンはレスリングの人気がその新しい制限の為に痛手を被るであろうと信ずる人達の中にいる。
